I realized the other day that itís been almost two years since I added anything to this page. I guess not that much has been going on. Hereís an attempt at starting again.

First snowstorm of the season last Friday. Have been nursing a cold for a few days, and so I was happy to have an excuse to stay in bed reading Tete a Tete by Hazel Rowley, a book about the Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre relationship. Really couldnít put it down. More gripping than anything Iíve read in months. Despite abiding intellectual commitment to each other, they had so many relationships with other people (overlapping and extremely complicated) itís almost impossible to imagine how they found the time to be as prolific as they were. Comforting to read that starting in the 50ís, some of the superhuman energy was related to massive amphetamine usage, especially in his case. I should consider Ritalin. Rowley writes so vividly, you can smell the stale tobacco, smoky apartments, and gritty hotel rooms. Very inspiring. Gives one hope that sexual profligacy leads to greater creative output.

New novel coming out in April. Will print some chapters here as soon as I figure out how to do it. French editor commented on it being ďtawdry,Ē so Iím hopeful about good sales. Readings begin in the spring. I suppose I should get my teeth whitened before then.

Also promised NEXT novel to agent for a year from now. Have started a novel about a married man who falls in love with another man. Every time I stumble out the door these days, I bump into yet another married man who is hooking up with men on the side. Leading me to believe that no one is faithful, everyone lies, and heterosexuality is rare. So far, I canít find the comedy in the situation.
